Amazon chief: ‘complaining is not a strategy’

Amazon chief: ‘complaining is not a strategy’ Founder and chief executive of Amazon, Jeff Bezos had plenty to say on strategies to deal with today’s world, a subject concentrating the minds of Australia’s retailers right now.

He was participating in a newspaper event in Italy (he owns the prestigious Washington Post in the USA) organised to celebrate the 150 anniversary of national publication La Stampa and to discuss the future of newspapers.

He made several points of interest to Sportslink Slinki readers, including his view that “a brand is just a fancy word for reputation.”

Bezoz (pictured) founded online retailer Amazon in 1994, selling books from his Seattle garage and has built the business to what is acknowledged as one of the biggest e-commerce sites globally.

He told his audience in Italy that he runs Amazon in a similar way to his newspaper business, guided by the same. principles, with "the internet a huge gift."

“Amazon is customer-centric,” he says, “both inventive and experimental, with a long-term orientation on e-commerce and web services.”

He says, “Constraints drive creativity and complaining is not a strategy.

“If you do build a great experience, customers tell each other about it. Word of mouth is very powerful.”
