Aussie Clothier heads athletics integrity

Aussie Clothier heads athletics integrity The International Association of Athletics Federations has named Australian Brett Clothier as the first head of its Athletics Integrity Unit.

Clothier joins the recently-launched organisation as the fifth and final member of the board, and will assume his new role ahead of the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London in August.

Clothier who founded and ran the integrity unit at Melbourne-based AFL for eight years, says, “Athletics is one of the few genuinely global sports.”

The integrity unit was officially launched at the beginning of April following the IAAF council’s approval of a new code of conduct. The independent division’s primary function is to combat any threats to the integrity of the sport, including bribery and corruption, manipulation of competition results and misconduct around transfers of allegiance.

Clothier began his legal career as a media lawyer in 2001 with major firm Minter Ellison, then spent four years as legal counsel for the integrity services department at Racing Victoria before joining the AFL.
