Business, fun and a touch of glitz

Business, fun and a touch of glitz Theme of the Super Retail Group’s sports division conference this year was Bring It.

And all the participants appear to have taken this to heart with the usual buzz and activity everywhere – the five-day conference was held on the Sunshine Coast, where store teams, support office crews and trade partners gathered at the Novotel Twin Waters resort.

The annual get-together included presentations from SRG chief executive Peter Birtles and sports division managing director Erica Berchtold, merchandise and brand presentations, plus store teams Q&As and much more, plus a wide collection of sporting activities and social get togethers in the resort rooms and massive big tops erected on the sports fields.

A jungle-themed dinner on the beach on Tuesday night encouraged fancy dress and after parties were held for those who wanted to kick on.

It all ended in a glitzy awards gathering, with red carpet and MC Sam Kekovich on the Thursday night, and many sore heads made their way home on Friday.

Reports Rebel Apparel Business Manager Libby Vernon, final numbers were around 630 delegates at conference, including 213 trade partners, 74 support office staff from Lidcombe and Lawnton, 196 Rebel store team members and 143 Amart Sports store team members.

With the announcement by Birtles and Berchtold on the opening day of the conference, that the Amart sports brand and stores are to be merged into Rebel by the end of October (see Rebel: cherrypicker strategy for stronger brand) Amart banners and merchandise assumed the status of collector’s items.

Sportslink understands that many details have yet to be finalised by the support office teams, and there was a mixture of uncertainty and confidence evident among many of the trade partners in the Rebel big top about the future of individual relationships with the Rebel brand.
