Headguard launch at Sunny Coast storeAn Amart Sports store was the focus for the launch of the new James Akerman rugby headguard.
Designed by the family of the late James Ackerman, a Sunshine Coast player who died from a head injury sustained in a tackle while playing in Queensland’s Intrust Super Cup in 2015, it was launched yesterday at the Amart store in Kawana.
With a major contribution from headguard specialist Madison Sport and NRL star Johnathon Thurston (pictured wearing the new headguard), the pink and blue accessory is designed to protect all players on the field.
The headguard carries a decoration by his children, Aboriginal artwork by Allan Shillingsworth representing the family’s heritage and the number 8, along with a DonateLife logo supporting organ and tissue donation.
• The launch was attended by Madison Sport managing director Brian Carmody. The Brisbane-based company has named the Yaxley Trading team of Paul Knight and Leigh Fyffe as its new Victoria/Tasmania agent.
