Nike to sell on Amazon hits retail

Nike to sell on Amazon hits retail

The news that Nike is to sell product direct to Amazon.com has impacted retailers around the world and in Australia.

The shares of Super Retail Group and RCG Corporation in Australia have taken a hit on the news, along with those of US and UK retailers, however Nike shares are reported to have risen on the news.

Sportslink understands that Nike had refused to sell on the platform but declining sales through its traditional outlets and the decision last week to cut jobs, numbers of products lines and to beef up online sales had all contributed to the change of heart, along with growth of counterfeit product.

Under Armour and adidas already have shop windows on the global platform and the imminent arrival of Amazon in Australia is already concentrating the minds of all in the marketplace.

Market analysts are reporting that this Nike move will hit all levels of retail in Australia where the brand is an important plank in the apparel and footwear offering.
