Sport NSW names Simpson as new chief
The Board of Sport NSW has named Darren Simpson as new chief executive, to replace Cheryl Battaerd who steps down today.
Simpson has worked in sport, exercise or recreation industries for 20 years, joining from the role of State Manager for AFL NSW/ACT Football Operations and former Chief Operations Officer of Greyhound Racing NSW.
He holds a Master of Business Administration in Sports Management and “has a track record of achieving significant reforms and initiatives within the peak sporting body environment,” says Sport NSW.
Sport NSW is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that is the active voice and peak body for sport in NSW. Through its vast membership, it represents over 15,000 sporting clubs and associations and 2.5 million participants, workers and volunteers in the state.
Cheryl Battaerd leaves the role after more than two years to spend time with her family.
