Will Blues light up to Origin victory?

Will Blues light up to Origin victory?

State of Origin rugby followers are used to the excitement going to the heads of NSW Blues supporters. Now it’ll be a blast as they light up with new technology.

The iconic blue wig has had an upgrade which includes LED lighting and built-in hedphones. Twelve thousand of a new Blatchys Blues SmartWiG are being made available to ticket holders for Game Two in Sydney on June 21.

With support from casino complex The Star, the wig gets an LED antenna “to light up when the lights go down” and built-in headphones connecting wearers to SmartWiG radio, which will deliver six hours of customised programming including Triple M’s commentary and live call of the on-field action during the game.

Before kick-off Blues legends Nathan Hindmarsh and Bryan Fletcher will talk to past NSW legends and take listeners into the NSW sheds to hear from NSW VB Blues head coach Laurie Daley.

NSWRL head of commercial Jodie Cross says it’s a great way for fans to experience the game and a first for Australian sport: “It’s something you can’t get in your lounge room. It’s a Blatchys Blues exclusive benefit, and you have to be at the game to experience it.”

Star marketing and entertainment general manager Melinda Madigan says “the most interactive live in-stadia sporting experience yet” is part of its investment in the iconic event.

“A loud and proud coordinated and engaged group of supporters might be just what the Blues need to bring home a victory.”

First SOO game will be held at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on May 31, with the Blues looking to make up for the 2016 series loss to the Maroons. Game three is also at Suncorp Stadium, on July 12.
