ORA show: buzz and new products

ORA show: buzz and new products

Add plenty of buzz to the much better weather and this year’s Outdoor Retailer Australia show was shaping up well, reports Editor Maggie Coleman.

Held at Sydney’s Moore Park precinct, with two halls, the big paved area between them and the tent arena, almost filled with products and people, the ORA show seemed to be a more positive experience for exhibitors and visitors.

Exhibitor numbers were boosted by a rollcall of new companies joining the strong list of regulars across a range of categories – from third generation, Goulburn-based Supex Products with an extensive collection of products , to accessory specialist like UThermic heat cream, AquaTech imaging, Campers Pantry freeze-dried food, BrazziSunbra apparel and Concept Samsera with Deejo knives.

Other exhibitors were back after a break such as Hi-Tec outdoor footwear and Barz Optics specialist eyewear – surely a vote of confidence in the show,

while a couple of the long-time regulars had chosen other ways to promote their brands or been faced with the conflict of dates with international OutDoor show in Germany.

And the Aussie Disposals group held their buying conference in conjunction with the show, attended by most of the around 45 member stores. Blue sky Outdoors and Camping World members were visible around the halls.

President of organisers Snow and Outdoor Trade Association Inc, Phil Endersbee of Wilderness Wear socks and apparel says, “The show is all about independent owner-operators dealing with independent retailers. Many people are of independent mind who love the outdoors.

There is a great atmosphere at the show this year – held across Sunday, Monday and Tuesday this week – and this is boosted by the fact that we do not allow closed stands, Endersbee says.

“I think there is more buzz, more people here and all exhibitors have told me they are happy (mid-way on day two).”

Committee member Philip Toomer of technical brand specialist Spealean also reported he was delighted with the positive vibes he was picking up around the show.
