ASGA board reshuffle: Berchtold, Tuthill move on The Australian Sporting Goods Association is undergoing a major reshuffle of its board, with a new president, two new members and the resignation of two long-serving players.

President for four years Erica Berchtold of Super Retail Group and long-time wholesale director Guy Tuthill of HanesBrands, have both stepped down.

New President of the board is Andrew Reed (pictured), Footjoy brand manager for golf specialist Acushnet Company and a board member since October 2013.

New members are Russell Havens, General Manager of rebel Merchandise and Marketing, who was appojnted at last week’s board meeting and Ashley Reade, general manager of Nike Pacific, appointed at the July Board meeting, (see

Andrew Reed praised the contributions made by Erica Berchtold and Guy Tuthill: “Erica has shared her great knowledge of, and passion for the sporting goods industry, in her time on the ASGA board. As President, she played a significant role in the strategic direction of ASGA for which the board is very appreciative.

“Guy has been an excellent board member over a long tenure having added considerable value through his industry insights and expertise. The board and its Members would like to sincerely thank them for their great service to ASGA,” said new president Reed.

Berchtold joined the board in 2011 and was appointed president in 2014. She says that she has much enjoyed her time on the board but feels the time is right to focus on the exciting changes within the sports division of the Super Retail Group,

“I am very happy to continue supporting the association in any way I can personally or professionally, it is in good shape and I look forward to seeing it continue to flourish.”

Guy Tuthill has been with the ASGA board for more than a decade and has decided to move on following the merger of Hanes Brands and Pacific Brands earlier this year. “as I have now moved out of the direct wholesale and retail industry, I feel it is best for me to make room for someone within this arena who is able to devote the time and energy this role deserves.”

Now joining the board as a retail director, Russell Havens joined Super Retail Group in 2014 as General Manager of rebel Merchandise and Marketing.

He brought more than 24 years of retail buying experience including Woolworths Supermarkets and Big W Stores.

The ASGA board is made up of three wholesale directors, three retail, two independent directors and the association’s Executive Director Shannon Walker.
