Jamie Gordon wins  a vote of confidence from his team at GPI Sports and Fitness in Melbourne's Mulgrave where he is a talented General Manager.

The extensive team, led by national sales manager Andrew Gill has  grown as the company  adds light commercial fitness product to what is claimed to be the largest domestic  range of Bodyworx, Bodycraft and Impetus fitness equipment.

GPI also  handles an extensive range of accessories, including new products like XR Slide and Tecrope along with post padding and plyo boxes and the expanding range of VIP Boxing equipment in a one-stop shop opportunity.

GPI Group added  a majority holding in Apollo Bicycles , a 38 year-old Australian company,  to  its stable of brands  in July 2016 – a  stand-alone Dandenong South business led by chief executive Simon Burke, who has been in this role since 2009.

The company is now known as GPI Apollo Bicycle Company Pty Ltd, marketing a substantial range of cycles in  many categories and claiming one of the top spots in domestic sales, with international markets in Asia, New Zealand, Canada, Russia and the Ukraine.

GPI had been stocking cycle brands such as Cheetah, Delsol, Hollandia and Kink  but with the  Apollo  acquisition, the cycle team, led by Eric Glazner, merged with the Apollo crew.

GPI has warehouses in every state for stock refill and distribution, service centres right around the country and a massive spare part centre.

The warehouses play a vital role in dealing with one of the major problems facing retailers and wholesalers -  the ability to offer quick delivery and satisfy their customer's needs.

Chief Executive of  The GPI Group is Automotive  Refinishing nut Colin Edwards who has been in the auto business for 48 years and established GPI in 1978 in a small factory in Sunshine with two staff. The GPI Group now trades through 13 warehouses spread around Australia and covers distribution in New Guinea, Fiji, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

The GPI Group of Companies is diversified in its makeup Fitness, Bicycles, Corporate and Promotional Products, online logoed AFL and NRL official products plus Automotive Refinishing and Industrial Abrasives.

There are now 184 around Australia on the payroll, Edwards says.

"And we have graduated in the eyes of retailers to become one of the best sources of quality products, including as the only company carrying  backup stocks in Tasmania."

"We have a great team  in our fitness area, led by multi-skilled Jamie Gordon, and  we play a very straight game with retailers," says Edwards who at 76 has no plans to retire.

He says " We still have many paths to take and new products to keep us ahead of the pack."
