Terry Dopper to join family business

Terry Dopper to join family business

Terry Dopper is moving on from the sports retail industry after 44 years.

In a radical shift of focus, Dopper is joining his brother Bill and nephew Luke in the family packaging machinery business, based in north-east Victoria.

Dopper says “I  have  immensely enjoyed my many years in the sports industry and always believed I was lucky to work in a field I am passionate about, and has been a large part of my life. ”

He leaves his role as general manager for the Sports Power, SportsPower Superstores and Sportscene brands on July 8, after a total of 18 years with SportsPower in two stints.

He also spent some years with the team at FrontLine Stores Australia.

Dopper says, “I have romanced with the idea of working with my brother a number of times over the years and on each occasion the opportunity arose I decided to remain in retail.

“After recently turning 60, I decided this would be my last chance to do something completely different in the back end of my working life.

“Therefore after 44 years in retail - the last 25 in independent retail - I decided the time was right.

Dopper will launch into his new role as national sales and marketing manager at Recopak Innovative Packaging Solutions - my eldest brother Bills' successful packaging machinery business.

“I will be based in my home office in Melbourne, with time spent interstate. One chapter closes and another one commences - I certainly look forward to the change and the challenge.”
