Two decades, and store sees a partySportspower Bundaberg is celebrating 20 years in business in its Bourbong Street location and continued family ownership.
Employing a local workforce of ten, and with a history which goes back to 1983 when the Pimm family acquired the Latitude25 sports store in the rum city, the business prides itself on its support of schools, community and sporting groups.
Owned by Michael Pimm and his wife Gail since 2004 when the store name was changed to Sportspower Bundaberg, they have won Sportspower store of the year in 2007 and again in 2014 when they cleaned up the state and national awards.
In 1996, the store moved from Rounds Arcade to a purpose-built building in 233 Bourbong Street and this building was renovated and extended to 541 sq metres in 2010 when fitness guru and The Biggest Loser star Shannan Ponton did the honours.
The store is located about one km from the CBD of Bundaberg, known for its “Bundy” rum distillery and turtle hatchery at Mon Repos beach, with much of the town being devastated in the 2013 floods.
Says Gail Pimm, “In an often-challenging retail environment where big chain brands are forever threatening to close the doors, Sportspower has remained the go-to sports store for the Wide Bay community over the years and we are sharing our birthday celebrations with our loyal customers this week.
As members of a national group, “we are regionally based but have access to the latest health and fitness technology, active wear, footwear and home fitness gear,” she says.
“We pride ourselves on being at the forefront of technology and informational changes, sending team members away for training and ensuring we are the experts in form, fit and technology when it comes to everything health and fitness,” she says.
“Our team pride themselves on being the very best at customer service and striving to go the extra mile for our customers and I think that has been a big part of our 20 years of success,” Gail Pimm says.
